Luka was born on June 29th 2018 at Brook Hollow Sport Horses nestled in the serene countryside of little Brooks, Georgia.
He was raised by two women, myself and my mother, Dia.
Dia is mostly responsible for choosing the breeding and I handled upbringing and training. A mother-daughter duo who share a deep passion for horses and got incredibly lucky.
In the competitive horse industry, luck is often a crucial factor, and it is fortunate that Luka has shown such promise and potential right from the beginning.
Luka is a chestnut with four tall white socks, a flaxen mane and tail - standing at 16.3h.
He was branded at inspection in 2021, marking the last year a numerical identifier was assigned under the Holsteiner brand at a GOV inspection. His brand number is 21. I chose this specific number because it aligns with both being my favorite number and the date of my birthday, which falls on the 21st of May. A personal touch that has meaning to me.
It has truly been a journey filled with hard work and dedication, but despite the challenges, this horse has brought immense joy and excitement to both our lives.
I backed Luka at the age of 3 and have been heavily involved in his training since the day he was born.
*His Dam, Bunny (Boudica, click here) was bought for me as a gift from my mother while I was in college. Our dear friend Sally Moehring of Ocala, Florida bred Bunny. Bunny is out of an Elite mare (EM Diva) by Donnerhal. I backed Bunny at age of 5 and a year later she went though extensive training with FEI dressage rider Stacy Larsson - she also owns Bunnys sire FEI grand prix stallion Benidetto. Stacy would go on to ride Bunny in her Elite Mare Performance Test and win.
Lukas journey could not have been successful without the help of others as many know in the industry it definitely takes a village.
That being said, professional hunter jumper trainer Isaac Leffkowitz of Ocala, Florida was first to work with Luka.
Later I would be contacted by accomplished international 5* Event rider Elisa Wallace about breeding to him. Elisa began to assist in his training and successfully rode him in his first stallion evaluation for approval of the GOV Westfalen Registry. Which he was approved for.
As a 5 y/o would go on to train with french international rider, Martin Douzant in Middleburg, Virgina. Martin prepared and rode Luka in the North American Stallion Sport Test.
Between going to other barns and shows for exposure, he spends his days being hacked out and enjoying his big grassy paddock at our barn in Middleburg, Virginia.
Luka is a remarkably personable and playful horse who has passed on his vibrant personality to his offspring. From birth, he has exhibited a high spirited nature, friendly and silly personality.
While he wasn't bred to be a stallion, his exceptional qualities and promise that would contribute to the warmblood breed were undeniable.
It was crucial for him to showcase that he embodies the characteristics of a competent, kind, and approachable stallion; without these attributes, he would not truly fit the role as stallion prospect to us.
As they say ‘ A good stallion makes a great gelding.’ As a coming 6-year-old, he has demonstrated good behavior, impressing everyone with his manners and positive attitude.
Luka was named after my friend Luka Gobovic. The name struck me as beautiful and distinct; I had never heard it before. Luka happened to be the younger sibling of a friend I was visiting in Montenegro, I was there helping assist and set up artist, Maja Šivec from Slavinia, photo exhibit in Podgorica. Luka displayed a genuine love for photography, and despite a language barrier, we found a friendship through our mutual love for the art of photography. The name holds personal importance to me.
